Path of Exile 2 has 8 ascendancy points, in 4 rewards of 2. Points 1–2: the Act 2 quest Ascent to Power — take Balbala's Barya to the Trial of the Sekhemas (area level 22), finish the Test of Strength and choose your Ascendancy. Points 3–4: the Act 3 quest The Trials of Chaos — bring the Chimeral Inscribed Ultimatum to the Temple of Chaos (area level 38, 4 trials). Points 5–8 come from later Trials of the Sekhemas (Djinn Barya) or Trials of Chaos (Inscribed Ultimatum); the files don't say which area level each needs. Patch 0.5.5, from the game files.

Trial of the Sekhemas

Act 2, area level 22, reached from The Ardura Caravan. The Trial of the Sekhemas will pit you against ancient tests. Those that endure these tests can reap great rewards. The Trials require a Barya to participate.

Quest: Ascent to Power (Act 2)

  1. Assist Asala in opening the Gates
  2. Obtain another Balbala's Barya
  3. Return to the Ardura Caravan
  4. Use the Desert Map to travel to the Trial of the Sekhemas
  5. Find a Relic Altar
  6. Place your Barya into the Relic Altar
  7. Speak to Balbala
  8. Use the Relic Altar
  9. Begin your Test of Strength
  10. Complete the Trial of the Sekhemas
  11. Defeat Rattlecage, the Earthbreaker
  12. Use the Altar of Ascendancy to choose your Ascendancy
  13. Use the Altar of Ascendancy to obtain Ascendancy Passive Skill Points

The Temple of Chaos: Act 3, area level 38, entered from Chimeral Wetlands. The Trial of Chaos is made up of multiple trial rooms.

  2. Find a use for the Inscribed Ultimatum
  3. Take a new Inscribed Ultimatum from The Trialmaster
  4. Place the Inscribed Ultimatum in the Temple Offering
  5. Complete the Trialmaster's Challenges

What the files don't say

  • Which area level or Sekhemas floor gives points 5–6 and 7–8. The files have the two rewards (AscendancyPoints3: 2, AscendancyPoints4: 2), floors with minimum levels 1, 45, 60, 75 and Trials of Chaos that grow to 7 and 10 trials at area level 60 and 75 — but no table ties a reward to one of them.
  • Which ascendancy points the Trialmaster's secret challenge gives: the game only says it grants "additional" points.
  • All Sekhemas floors are listed at area level 22 in the area table: the level of a run comes from the Barya you use.
